1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:1-7
Psalm 37, like all of God’s Word, is a light bursting through the darkness. When I think of the glass that often decorates churches, the light through the day shows a different beauty as it reflects at different angles. God’s word is like that. It is always beautiful and always reveals a new beauty every time we read it. It never gets old and never fails to reflect God’s Glory. Praise God! for His unfailing love, His wonderful Grace.
Just a few days ago, I heard some news about Zimbabwe and its cash shortages. Not only that, but the country wanting to go back to ‘bond notes’. My heart was down. My immediate thought was, someone is plotting again, another wicked scheme is on the go. I thought, we have to survive through more hard times. I thought, how would I do if those changes came? It is amazing how selfish we get when suddenly our security is at risk. Then it struck me, what about the rest of Zimbabwe? The suffering and hardship of many in the last years has been great. This burden clamped me down, surely Lord, those that are plotting cannot get away with it again?
I know that this nation has to come to a place on its knees. Through all the chaos and turmoil, the only healing will come from God. It is not our place to question His will or to think He is not in complete control. Our focus, our hearts must only be facing towards Him, trusting Him. Psalm 37 is an encouragement for us. We dance with joy, for we know His Word remains forever.
