Beware The Curse of Jotham!

“Once upon a time the trees decided to elect a king. First they said to the olive tree, ‘Be our king!’
But it refused, saying, ‘Should I quit producing the olive oil that blesses both God and people, just to wave back and forth over the trees?’ ” (Judges 9: 7-21)

Beware of the ‘curse of Jotham son of Gideon’! For whenever our point of view or plan takes place over God’s, the curse of Jotham is present. Where God’s will is rejected, Satan is working his own will in our lives. Electing Abimelech as a king was a complete rejection of God. The people tried to do the same with Gideon (Judges 8), but he refused to be part of it. Like the olive tree, the fig tree and the grapevine, he knew where God had placed him and the amazing blessings that come with being in God’s will.

What decisions face you today? Is someone telling you to ‘Be our King!’ To move from where God has placed you to some where else. Let us step back and think like the olive tree. Should I quit producing fruit for God, or stop serving those God has placed in my care? “There is great gain in godliness with contentment.” God is waiting to pour His infinite blessings upon those who are His. Yes, there is great encouragement for all who listen when God speaks. For we are called to see things from God’s perspective, to follow His will.

May we listen to Jotham’s parable, taking the road of blessing and not falling into it’s curse.
