God’s Vision, Your Strong Foundation

“So why do you call me ‘Lord,’ when you won’t obey me? I will show you what it’s like when
someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then obeys me. It is like a person who builds a house on a strong foundation laid upon the underlying rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against the house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who listens and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will crumble into a heap of ruins.” (Luke 6:46-49)

Lets, for a moment, consider God’s will and His vision for our lives. Consider this, God has a
purpose for your life. The question is, are you living it? There is no doubt that there is obedience to God through everyday life, no matter where we are. We need to live a holy life no matter what,
trusting in Christ and letting Him live through our lives. But, oh what joy! Belongs to those who
knows God’s vision and obey it.

Should we not be in a place where we approach God in humility, on our knees in reverence? Where we come and say, all of you Lord and none of us. To let go of everything and give it all to God. In Jesus words, ‘If you want to be my follower you must love me more than your own father and mother, wife and children, brother and sisters – yes, more than your own life.’ Yes, and every person who has this relationship with our Father will live a life of His choosing. And no, it is not
controlling but loving. Beyond what we can understand, yes, but still the way of true life, of peace
and joy.

We know that God’s vision is always Christ. Christ exalted, His Glory reigning. Rather than look at this, let us look at a specific vision for your life and what God calls us to do. The start is exactly
what we just looked at, coming before Him. You cannot expect a Godly vision from anyone but
God. If we are living a life of salvation in Christ, God is probably already working towards the
vision He has for your life. If we are not, sometimes God works to bring about His vision anyway.
His grace works in peoples lives towards His purpose. Don’t think you can escape His hand or His work.
The problem lies in these two statements, ‘listens to my teachings, and then obeys me.’ Often we
come to Him but we are not listening to what He says or we listen but fail to obey. We need to listen to the Spirits whisper, nothing else. He is telling us what we need to do, He is leading us to the right place and He is teaching us all things. No, you say? That is because we are not listening! We are false in coming before God, because we act like we are open to His word but in truth we don’t even listen.

Then we come to the part that is another stumbling block. We get a clear picture of where God
wants us to go, but then reject Him and disobey. How often as Christians do we fail to obey? We are unfaithful in the small things let alone obeying God’s vision. Sometimes where He calls us does not make sense to us or the rest of the world. How can we have faith that we will receive eternal life in Christ, but fail to have faith in the love of the Father? He knows what is best, and without Him in our lives, is there any point in moving forward, in going towards another goal?

We love the Father, so we obey. We trust the Father, so we obey. Don’t miss out on all God has planned for you. This is what you need to see. God’s vision, like all things we do, only has a strong foundation if it is from Him and sustained by Him. If we don’t come to Him, listen and then obey, anything we do in our lives will ‘crumble into a heap of ruins.’ But if we come to Him and listen first, listen to where He is calling us and to His purpose for our lives, we will first see God’s vision.

Then in obedience we follow Him. Then we know and trust that God’s vision will be accomplished. Why, because He is the foundation. He sustains us when the floodwaters rise and break against us. He allows us to stand firm.
