I Have Told You These Things

I Have Told You These Things

“I have told you these things so that you won’t fall away……. Yes, I am telling you these things now, so that when they happen, you will remember I warned you……. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me.” (John 16: 1, 4, 33)

“I have told them many things while I was with them so they would be filled with my joy.”

(John 17:13)

All these verses are Christ’s words to His disciples. Christ explained many truths to His disciples to encourage and equip them for the future. To help them grow into their calling and ministry when He would be gone. These same verses of scripture encourage us to do the same. Christ still today encourages and warns us through our lives, in the people we meet, scripture, circumstances and many other things. These verses above are examples of some of the reasons why He works to tell us something. Bear in mind that they all work towards one purpose, the knowledge of Him and His Glory.

‘He has told us these things so that we won’t fall away.’ Some may know about this, where God has worked in your life to ensure that you do not give up on Him. He has bought you to a place where you trust Him and have not rejected Him. For those who did not know Christ, He showed you a salvation of wondrous forgiveness. For those who know Christ, He continues to hold you and strengthen you. ‘And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus comes back again.’

So too, He tells us things to warn us. He tells us things that were, that are and that are still to come. He continually warns us, all we have to do is learn to listen. How can we expect to not find danger if we ignore the warnings He gives? Has he not shown us right from wrong? If you then do wrong, should the warning and punishment that He gives not follow? Sometimes He shows us what is going to happen, then we know what should be done. Then we are encouraged through the trails and we grow as we trust in His leading. How great and wonderful a God we have!

Joy and peace, these things are God’s will for those that know Him. Don’t be misled to thinking that you can receive any of these things from anywhere or anyone else. This is an amazing truth for those that know Christ. He works in your life so that you will have joy and peace. This is not to our every whim or to what we think is best. ‘The peace He gives isn’t like the peace the world gives. So

Don’t be troubled or afraid.’ And yes, it is possible to suffer and still have complete peace. That is the joy and peace that awaits those who know Christ. We would be fools to reject and ignore such an amazing gift.

I have told you these things so that you will know the gift that awaits you. The God who adores us and loves us despite our filthiness, our sinfulness. ‘He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.’ Don’t miss His Grace, His unfailing love and always shout His praise. Leap for joy and thankfulness for His continual work in our lives.
